Maharashtra Labour Welfare fund - Explained (MLWF Payment due date extended due to Covid Lockdown)

Note: -MLWF payment date extended, Maharashtra Labour welfare board has extended MLWF contribution date instead of 15th July 2020 to till 15th August 2020 due to Covid lockdown.

About MLWF (in brief):

Applicability - Maharashtra Labour Welfare Fund in short ' MLWF ' is applicable to all shops & establishments with more than 5 employees in a accounting year.

Period of contribution: is Half yearly ending on 30th June 2020 to be paid on or before 15th day of July  and 2nd half ending on  31st december to be paid by 15th January each year.

The per worker tripartite contribution rate every year is:

Mode of payment is available online. - MLWF website for online payment link is http://public.mlwb.in/

Returns: To be filed in Form A-1 which is the Challan cum returns form on or before the half yearly due dates respectively. In case of Cheque payment is to be drawn in favour of the “Welfare Commissioner, Maharashtra Labour Welfare Board” and must be deposited at the following address on or before the due dates:-

Maharashtra Labour Welfare Board(MLWB), Hutatma Babu Genu Mumbai Girni Kamgar Krida Bhavan, Senapati Bapat Marg, Elphinstone Road, Mumbai-400013.

Penalty and Dues - Any dues payable under this act are treated as dues of land revenue to the state government. If an employer is not paying contributions due to the Board, the commissioner can issue a notice to pay the dues. If the employer fails to pay despite of issuance notice, interest will be for first three month 1.5% than @ 2% is charged on the dues. If the employer does not deduct employee’s contribution in a timely manner, employer may be liable to pay them by himself. Read Section 6B for more details.

  • Better sports and sports facilities
  • Advance and well managed Library and Reading Rooms
  • Modern educational facilities
  • Organizing cultural and social events
  • Employment and self-employment related programs
  • Health Related Programs
  • Other related services

There are about 231 Labour Welfare Centers currently operational in the state of Maharashtra.

All employees - unpaid accumulations and unpaid wages(if any) and fines collected from employees are to be deposited in the fund as per provisions specified in the MLWF act.
